About Lead Paint Violations

Lead Paint Violations runs as an independent information site; it isn't HPD or a city agency. A single law firm pays to advertise on this site. Every page shows a phone number, and it connects to that firm's line for case reviews.

The housing violation records that HPD publishes on NYC Open Data become a plain-English lead record here. If a building has 10 or more recent open lead orders, it gets a full page; every other building with a lead order gets a lookup answer. The site also explains the rules on lead paint, lead poisoning and lead pipes for tenants and parents. Copperfield Data Partners Inc. runs the site.

The source of the building records

  • Data source: HPD's Housing Maintenance Code Violations, as published on NYC Open Data.
  • What's covered: the orders HPD issues under Local Law 1 for lead paint, numbered 610 to 626.
  • The site refreshes the data every month.
  • Buildings with 10 or more lead orders still open, issued since January 2023, get full record pages. Every building that has a lead order is covered by the lookup.

Look up your building

On the borough, building, and lookup pages, every count comes straight from those records; nothing is an estimate. The oldest lead orders in the records were issued in December 1999. When HPD's wording identifies a door, window, or wall, the building page spells that out in plain words.

For the site's legal terms, including its advertising notice, see the terms of use.

Where your call or case review request goes

Lead Paint Violations is a service built to generate leads. When you call (888) 503-5930 or send a case review request, your call or details go to the one law firm that pays to advertise on this site, which decides whether to take the case. We're paid for that advertising, and we don't take a share of any recovery.

Your first review is free, and a call comes with no obligation. Once the call ends, you choose whether to take the next step.

The sources of the health and legal information

Sources behind the health guides: the CDC plus the NYC Health Department. For NYC rules, the site uses HPD's Local Law 1 pages. Deadlines come straight from state laws, like New York's CPLR 214. Next to each fact, every guide links the source that supports it. For your family, none of this counts as medical or legal advice.

Information about health

The case review form asks one thing only: whether a doctor reported a high lead level in a child. Please don't send the site any medical records. The lawyer reviewing your case will explain the safe way to share them.

How to verify a record with HPD

The official copy of each violation is held by HPD. To check a record, or to view the way HPD wrote an address, use HPD Online. Search the building with the BIN or BBL listed on its page at this site. HPD's changes appear here once the next monthly refresh runs. To confirm a record's current status, HPD Online is where you check.
